First Notes was started by Nancy Spitters, who earned her BME from WMU, and taught music in the Lakeshore school system for twenty four years. Nancy helps design curriculum and has written many of the chants and songs used in First Notes. Rockford/Grand Rapids area First Notes is lead by Julie Sanders, who graduated from Anderson University with a BA in Vocal Performance. She is certified in the Gordon Institute of Music Learning Theory and has been instructing for First Notes since 1996. Julie started First Notes with Nancy Spitters, helped to design curriculum and has also written many of the songs and chants used in First Notes. She knows the value of exposing children to this learning method and is excited to be able to offer classes in these areas. St Joe area First Notes is lead by Candi Spitters. After studying early childhood education at Warner Pacific College, Candi completed GIML mastership in early childhood music. She has worked in the choir department of St Joe schools for fifteen years, has ten years of experience teaching piano, and 8 years as a first notes instructor.
